UPDATE: The Green Fire was contained at approximately .46 acres at 1:45 p.m.

Original post: Fire crews and an airplane are responding to a small fire near a PG&E transformer on Green Hill Road in Blue Lake, north of State Route 299. The fire ignited shortly after 12:30 p.m.  As of this writing, the Green Fire has burned approximately one acre.

Blue Lake resident Elaine Hogan tells the Outpost that “fire crews are on it,” adding that the fire doesn’t appear to be spreading. A helicopter just dropped fire retardant on the small blaze, significantly reducing smoke.

Reached by phone a few minutes ago, a Blue Lake firefighter confirmed that the fire was burning along Green Hill Road but cut the call short, adding “I gotta go.”

We’ll update this post when we have more information.
