Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release:

On the morning of July 19, 2025, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) patrol deputies executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Blue Lake Boulevard, Blue Lake, following an extensive investigation prompted by multiple community reports of suspected drug  trafficking.

During the operation, deputies interrupted an active drug transaction and detained several  individuals. The search yielded substantial evidence confirming that the resident, John Edward Hames, 44, of Blue Lake, was engaged in the sale of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Authorities  seized approximately 40.49 grams of methamphetamine and 35.23 grams of fentanyl, a highly  potent opioid. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), as little as 2 milligrams of  fentanyl can be lethal, meaning the seized fentanyl equates to over 17,000 potentially deadly  doses.

Hames was arrested and charged with violations of Health and Safety Code sections 11351  (possession for sale of a controlled substance) and 11378 (possession for sale of  methamphetamine). He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

This operation is a testament to HCSO’s dedication to problem-oriented policing and to helping  keep our streets free of deadly fentanyl and other narcotics. The HCSO remains dedicated to  ensuring the safety and well-being of Humboldt County residents.
