Press release from the California Highway Patrol:

On October 19th, 2025, at 1713 hours, Humboldt Communications Center notified CHP units of a solo vehicle crash on US-101, in Richardson Grove. A semi tractor without a trailer, was traveling on US-101 when, for reasons still under investigation, the semi tractor drove off the roadway collided with the barrier of the bridge just south of the entrance to Richardson Grove State Park. The semi tractor travelled off the bridge and landed on its roof, beneath US-101. The driver, Juan Herrera Garcia (75), was uninjured and DUI was not a factor in this crash. US-101 was closed for approximately 30 minutes as a result of this crash.  Fluids from the engine of the semi tractor leaked from the vehicle onto the roadway below.  Mitigation measures were placed, and State Parks is overseeing the cleanup efforts within the State Park.
