From the California Department of Transportation District 1 Office:
FRESH PAVEMENT IN ROUTE 36 SLIDE RESPONSE: Crews have been conducting paving today as we continue to build a temporary lane further from the hillside east of Swimmer’s Delight near Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park. Next week, crews plan to begin building an earthen berm to help contain smaller mud and rock slides this winter. We’ll also be bringing in K-rail and eventually shifting traffic over as work progresses.
Route 36 remains open to one-way traffic in this area. On weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic is released at the top of each hour, with an additional opening between 3 and 4 p.m. to help with school traffic. At all other times, including nights and weekends, travelers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes.
Our goal remains to open two-way traffic by October, continue close monitoring, and keep both lanes open for as long as slide and weather conditions allow.
