Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office release:
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is asking for the public’s assistance in locating missing person 64-year-old Bobby Joe Smith, who was last seen in Willow Creek on the morning of August 15, 2026.
It is possible Smith traveled by bus from Willow Creek to the Eureka or Arcata area.
Smith is described as a 64-year-old male, approximately 5-foot-11-inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has long gray hair, a long gray beard, and blue eyes. Smith has a colored eagle tattoo on one of his shoulders or arms. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, possibly a button-up shirt, and the hat shown in the below photograph.
Smith has a prior injury that affects his mobility, and he is known to walk very slowly. Smith is also known to experience seizures, which may cause him to lie down and remain immobile. According to his family, he also has dementia. It is unknown whether Smith had his medication with him when he was last seen.
