The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has completed the death investigation into the death of 63-year-old Richard Scoville, who was recovered from the Trinity River near Kimtu Beach on July 22, 2026.

The autopsy determined that Mr. Scoville’s cause of death was a sudden cardiac event. The manner of death was determined to be natural. The findings confirm that Mr. Scoville did not die from drowning, as was initially reported on July 23, 2026.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office extends its heartfelt condolences to Mr. Scoville’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
