Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On August 25, 2026, at approximately 8:17 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting in the area of Big Hill Road and Marshall Lane in Hoopa.

Deputies responded to the area and located a victim who had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and initiated saving measures. However, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No suspect has been identified at this time. Witnesses in the area reported seeing a possible 2010 black Toyota Tacoma near the location at the time of the shooting.

This case is currently under investigation by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Division.   The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
