There’s a 300-acre-and-growing fire in the Hoopa Valley at the moment. The fire’s on Highway 96 between Hoopa and Weitchpec. The highway’s closed at the moment, and power’s out in the region.

The “MP18” Fire started yesterday at around 4:30 p.m. and blew up overnight. It’s currently being attacked by from the air with a tanker.

Calfire is maintaining a page on the incident. The Hoopa OES Facebook page is being frequently updated. The county has a large portion of the Square east of the river under an evacuation warning — the lowest level of alertness. (See map here.)

It’s forecast to get up to 104 degrees in Hoopa today. Avoid the area, and stay safe, everyone.
