George Robert Enos, Sr. 82, of Ferndale, Calif., passed away on June 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy rooted in family, farming, community service, and friendship. 

George was born on June 12, 1944, in Scotia, Calif., to Cedric and Agnes Enos, and he resided his entire life in the 95536 postal code of Ferndale. 

George grew up on the family dairy on the Island near Goble Lane with three brothers and three sisters. Before tractors became common, much of the farmwork was done with the family’s workhorses. 

George’s childhood memories were often at the family’s cabin in Camp Weott, where crabbing, picnicking and fishing trips brought the family together until the devastating flood of 1955 forever changed those traditions. 

George’s education began at the Assumption Catholic School in Ferndale, where the nuns taught four grades in a single classroom. George often shared that his first eight years of school were all spent in the same classroom. George also spent much of his youth on the farm, participating as a 4-H member and showing dairy cattle and livestock at local fairs.

George attended four years at Ferndale high school graduating in 1962. During these years, he participated in the Future Farmers of America and was a two-time all county lightweight basketball player. During his senior year, he traveled by train to the national FFA convention in Kansas City. This would be one of only two times during his life he spent more than a week away from Ferndale.

Shortly after graduating high school George married Roselynn Goff in December 1962. They had four children together, Bridget Connor Enos, a late infant son, George (Rob) Enos, Jr., and Antone (Tony) Enos. During their marriage George worked on numerous dairies in the Ferndale area ending at Pleasant Point Dairy, where, as George put it, he quit milking cows. 

In George’s next stage of life, he married Beverly Barnard. This marriage added two granddaughters into his life: Angelina Waters and Sara Parker who brought him joy. They simply referred to him as Padda. 

It was during this time in his life that George began driving Barnaby on Main Street. George would give rides and tours by horse and carriage, providing historical facts and stories about Ferndale. During these years, George got to do two of the things he really loved in life, working with animals and visiting with people. His joy for horses was evident by his frequent attendance at the horse races during the Humboldt County Fair. He also added four more grandchildren during these years: George Enos, III, the late Isabella Enos, Anna Enos, and William Enos. When his time came to an end driving Barnaby every day, George began working out at the Lost Coast Ranch as a caretaker and later sheep farmer. 

George joined Native Sons of the Golden West when he turned 18 and remained an active member throughout his life, serving three times as president, holding numerous other offices, and attending the grand parlor as a delegate many times. When George received his 50 year membership pin a few years back it was an accomplishment he cherished dearly. 

George proudly shared his Portuguese and Swiss-Italian heritage with anyone. He likely attended every Portuguese Festa held in Ferndale including 2026 where some of the last photos were taken of him. His grandfather, Antone Enos, was among the early organizers of those celebrations. 

A little over two years ago George’s wife Beverly passed away, and George retired from working permanently. At the age of 80, he began to spend the last two years of his life visiting with people, attending local events, having breakfast at the Red Front Store, watching Dodger and 49ers games, partaking in bocce ball games and playing cards with his friends till all hours of the night.

George is survived by his children daughter Bridget Connor Enos, sons George Enos, Jr., and Antone Enos; sister Celia (Jim) Titus; brother William (Donna) Enos; grandchildren George (Reagan) Enos, III, Anna Enos, William Enos, Angelina (Kevin) Waters and Sara (Ryan) Parker; great-grandchildren George Enos, IV, Charles Enos, Liam Waters; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cedric and Agnes Enos; brothers Tony Enos and John Enos; and sisters Mary A. Enos and Rose Enos Johnson; an infant Son; granddaughter Isabella Enos; and his trusty steed Barnaby. 

The Family would like to thank the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department and all the first responders, Dr. Bahman Chavoshan and Dr. Umair Ali and RN’s Jolene Yeager and Tanner Broadstock, as well as the ER staff at Redwood Memorial Hospital and ICU staff at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. 

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate George’s joint life Celebration in conjunction with his late brother John Enos at noon on July 18, 2026, at the Portuguese Hall on Ocean Avenue in Ferndale. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ferndale.

George will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever a part of the Ferndale community he so dearly served with great pride.
