Press release from the Eureka Police Department:
On October 30, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m., an EPD officer contacted 61-year-old Robert Munts of Eureka for causing a disturbance near the Gazebo at 419 Second Street.
The officer was familiar with Munts due to EPD’s prior contacts and history with him. The officer was also aware of an incident that occurred on October 29, 2026, during which Munts was arrested for public intoxication, assault, and elder abuse.
During the October 30 contact, Munts was uncooperative and attempted to walk away from the officer. Due to Munts’ continued aggressive behavior and the officer’s observations of signs and symptoms consistent with being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, the officer attempted to detain him.
Munts continued to refuse to comply with the officer’s directions and resisting arrest. He was ultimately taken to the ground and detained without further incident. Once medically cleared from a local hospital, he was booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for public intoxication, disturbing the peace, and obstructing/resisting a peace officer.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Eureka Police Department at 707-441-4300.
