Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On October 31, 2026, at approximately 5:50 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the 500 block of Higgins Street in Eureka.

Deputies responded to the area and discovered that a residence and a vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Witnesses reported seeing a white sedan with a red top traveling eastbound on Higgins Street immediately after the shots were fired. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Later that afternoon, at approximately 1:35 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 2200 block of McKinleyville Avenue in McKinleyville following a report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies located a white and red 2016 Kia Soul that had been reported stolen from Eureka earlier that morning. The vehicle also matched the description provided by witnesses and is believed to have been used in the drive-by shooting.

We are asking for the public’s assistance as we actively work to identify and locate the individuals responsible for this shooting. Any information, no matter how small, could make a critical difference in helping us identify those responsible and solve this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (707) 268-2539.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
