Paul was born in Eureka on August 31, 1971. He was the much-welcomed son of Karen Anderson Ross and Dennis M. Costa. He left us suddenly on August 24, 2026. He was 54 years old.
He is survived by his parents, Karen Ross (Steve) of Weitchpec and Dennis Costa (Erica) of Eureka; his much-loved son, Riley Wilder Costa of Samoa, Calif.; his brother, Tony M. Costa of Maui; and his nephew, Bronson Costa of Maui.
Paul spent his childhood in Santa Rosa, graduating from Santa Rosa High. Well known for winning a citywide wrestling championship and being an avid expert skateboarder, he was also known for his feats of daredevil behavior and being the life of the party. Paul gave the best hugs, had striking green eyes, and a sharp sense of humor. He loved fishing at the mouth of the Klamath River with his father, Dennis, and hunting with Steve Ross. His favorite saying was always, “I am striving to achieve excellence.” He was a proud member of the Yurok Tribe.
Paul began his career in construction in Sonoma County. In 1992, he returned to Humboldt County to continue his trade in construction for Danco for many years. He took great pride in the building projects he worked on throughout Humboldt County. Paul loved music and was the front man for the well-known punk rock band “The Crooks.” His best friend, drummer Harley Robinson, was killed early this summer, and Paul was greatly affected by his loss. Paul truly loved his family and true friends.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Bobbie and Lew Wilder of Orleans; grandparents Clara and Les Anderson of Santa Rosa, and Joann and Tony Costa of Eureka.
Special thanks to Tom McMurray and Pastor John Armand for their friendship and guidance to Paul.
No services will occur at this time, and there may be a small family gathering at a future date.
