Timothy Dean Fehely, born Aug 22, 1944, passed away on Sept. 15, 2026.
Tim passed away just 25 days after his 82nd birthday in Eureka from sudden and unexpected onset of shingles on his face, compounded by complications of shingles.
He was born in Oregon City, Oregon to his parents, Glenn Dean Fehely and LuElda Collins Fehely. He was their third child. Later the family moved to Northern California, near his father’s birthplace. Tim lived most of his life in Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, where two younger sisters were born.
Tim was a good-looking young man with a high IQ. He hoped for a time when people could learn to treat each other with kindness and respect. After highschool, in his early working life he worked for the City of Arcata in Public Works, where he applied his drafting skills. He was well liked.
Tim loved the outdoors and was athletic. He enjoyed hunting (was highly skilled with both a hunting rifle and a bow and arrow) and fishing, and scuba diving. With those skills he was able to provide food for people who then were able to eat a better diet than they might have had otherwise. Also he enjoyed kayaking, skiing on both water and snow and working out on exercise equipment. And he enjoyed driving his Triumph sports car. He was very happy to stand beside his older brother for his brother’s wedding. As a teenager he played baseball and was a pitcher of some appreciated merit. Also as a growing boy and teenager he brought laughter to family and friends with his quick wit and he helped his baby sister to take care of her pets and taught her many math skills. He enjoyed cooking when he had the chance. In his later years he was especially happy to learn of the condors being brought back with the combined efforts of facilities in Oregon and the Yurok Tribe in Del Norte County.
In college at Humboldt State he studied civil engineering.
He will rest next to his parents and his paternal Aunt Blanche, who all passed before him.
Timothy is survived by his brother, John, and his three sisters Kathleen, Eileen and Colleen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Tim’s military service was with the National Guard and the Army Reserves, where he did officer training in the late 1960s. He spent nine months at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. During that time he was able to see much of D.C. under the assistance of then Congressman Don Clausen, who was also a childhood friend of Tim’s father. Tim cherished his opportunity to visit D.C. with Don. He also took his free time to visit the Smithsonian Museum and sent many postcards home from these visits. On the East Coast, though it saddened him at the losses, he felt honored to take part in Military Honors Services for those who fell (and for their families) in Vietnam. He loved playing the Taps and hearing it played.
Tim’s passing is being marked with military honors on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at Ocean View Park in Eureka. It is a public location and friends are invited.
