Congressman Huffman’s coming to town.
Fresh off the publication of his first book, No Prophets: The Fight to Save Democracy from Christian Nationalism, U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman will be in Eureka Monday evening to host a town hall-style meeting.
It has been about a year and a half since The Huff hosted one of these things here in Humboldt. That one was packed with passionate constituents. Some wanted assurances that Huffman and his Democratic allies were doing their utmost to protect the country from the “existential threat” posed by President Trump and his Republican enablers; others accused Huffman of being complicit in war crimes for agreeing to send military aid to Israel. (He has since moved to enact restrictions on such aid.)
With the midterm election just over two weeks away and the U.S. electorate on edge over which party will emerge with majority representation in Congress, Monday’s town hall promises similar engagement. Huffman plans to provide an update from D.C. and take questions from participants.
The event will take place from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Monday at the Sequoia Conference Center, 901 Myrtle Ave. in Eureka. Seating is limited, so if you’d like to attend, you should RSVP here before 5 p.m. Friday. Priority will be given to constituents of California’s Second District (that’s us locals) on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Please note,” his office advises, “an RSVP does not guarantee admittance. Large bags or backpacks and signs will not be permitted in the venue. Please contact Huffman.Response@mail.house.gov if you need translation assistance.”
If you have questions, you can contact Huffman’s Eureka field office at (707) 407-3585.
