BIG CHANGES ALONG THE EEL BY RIO DELL: Crews along U.S. 101 removed the first segment of the old Eel River Bridge this week as demolition continues to make way for the new bridge.

There’s plenty more work ahead. The remaining bridge and Piers 2-4 are expected to be removed by the end of September, with the temporary rock berm in the river expected to be fully removed by mid-October. Work will continue outside the river channel through the winter, and crews are expected to begin installing piles for the new bridge next summer.

The timing of individual demolition activities can shift as plans and field work are finalized, so we may not always be able to provide an exact date far in advance.

And a quick safety reminder: Please don’t fly personal drones over the active jobsite. Our project team will continue capturing photos and video as work progresses so we can share some of the action safely.

For now, here’s a look at the first section coming down.
