Judy was born on January 2, 1945 and raised in Arcata as the second child of Earl and Dorothy Kjer. She grew up on a dairy farm in the Arcata Bottoms, attended Canal School and Arcata High School. She was a lovely soul that cared deeply for family and friends, and faith. She took her Danish heritage, volunteering and caretaking seriously.

Judy Kjer married Louis Walton Jr. in 1960 and together they raised three children, Barbara, Jeff and Greg. They lived in Arcata, a short time in Klamath Falls, and settled in Willow Creek. She was a homemaker, waitress for Steve Paine at the Flame Restaurant and eventually moved back to Arcata. Judy worked at Daly’s department store for several years in Eureka until they closed. She moved on to Hospice of Humboldt, where she was known as Judy Ann, for many years and took care of many homes and pets while their owners traveled. She volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital and also stepped out of her comfort zone (and Humboldt County) to volunteer on two separate trips to Vietnam as an administrative volunteer for Project Smile. 

Judy was a fabulous cook and chief bottle washer. She kept busy with 4-H, Campfire Girls, Cub Scouts, Pop Warner football, Little League baseball, Vacation Bible School, Christian Women’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi sorority for women, the Danish Lodge and Trinity Lutheran Church in Eureka. She loved to lend a hand and wasn’t afraid to raise it as part of community and support. 

Judy loved to travel with her family when they were younger. Many weeks over the years were spent at Indian Mary campground in Oregon with special friends Darrell and Carol Byard and their family. Disneyland, camping and sports filled out the travel card. Later, she and Don Scott would marry in 2007 and consider travel an important part of their lives too. Visiting family in Oklahoma, Danish life in Solvang, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, the Continental Divide by train and many other weekend trips.

Judy and Don lived in Eureka until July 2020, at which time Judy came to live at Willow Springs Memory Care in Redding. She lived here for the rest of her days until she peacefully passed with her family by her side. Judy would have been incredibly happy to know that Hospice was there to help shepherd her to her reward.

Judy is survived by her daughter Barbara Boyer, son Jeff (Wendy) Walton, brothers John (Linda) Kjer, and Darrell Kjer. Grandchildren Heather (Josh) Stephens, Shawn Boyer, Carlee (Dale) Fox, Claire Walton, Cate Walton, many great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and bonus family.

Waiting for her in heaven are her parents, Earl and Dorothy Kjer, son, Greg Walton and son-in-law Robert Boyer.

We would like to acknowledge those who were like family to Judy: Marci, Craig, Ashton and Linea Vizenor, Erica Capelle-Hovnanian, and Dave and Jan Groe. 

Judy’s family would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff at Willow Springs Memory Care for six years of exceptional care. We also appreciate several years of care and support from Freedom Home Health and Hospice.

A celebration of life will take place at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eureka on Sep. 19, 2026 at 1 p.m. She will be interred at Greenview Cemetery. Donations in Judy’s name can be made to Hospice of Humboldt in Eureka.
