William Robert Nichols, 85, of Eureka, passed away on September 6, 2026. Bill was born on February 26, 1941 in Los Angeles. He was a loving father, brother and a beloved member of the community. He is survived by daughters Shanna and Tonna, grandchildren Michael, Casey and Amber, brothers Dave and Danny, sisters-in-law Susan and Kelli, nieces and nephews and large group of neighbors and friends that were family to him. He will be laid to rest next to his brother Jim Nichols at Rose Hills in Whittier.

Bill moved to Eureka over 50 years ago and loved living on the North Coast. He loved fishing and hunting. One of his favorite things to do was to show the Eureka area to friends and family who would visit. He loved to drive and would drive everyone to Old Town Eureka, Avenue of the Giants in the Redwoods, Trinidad Beach, Ferndale, Sequoia Park Zoo and more.

Bill volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital for many years. He was a member of Eureka Moose Lodge 636, Eureka Elks Lodge 652 and a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West. He liked to treat family and friends to events at the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. He loved going to the local small-town events and checking out the farmer’s markets in the area.

Bill chose not to have a formal service at Rose Hills in Whittier. In lieu of flowers, he asked that you give to a charity of your choice.

In Bill’s words “Life is for the living, so get on with it. Life can be as good as you allow it to be, so have fun and enjoy it!”
