Cindy Palmatier, of Fortuna, passed away on August 8, 2026, at the age of 59. Cindy was born in Eureka. Her love of life and friends began at a young age, camping at Whiskeytown Lake with her mother, Gayle. She also loved her father Dale and her sisters Sherri, Sonja, and Diana. Cindy imbued her two daughters, Brittney and Amanda, with her love of the outdoors, spending summers at Lake Mendocino near her Uncle Fred and Aunt Lois.

Cindy had a vibrant, playful side that everyone loved — she enjoyed lip syncing to her favorite ’80s artists, (especially Def Leppard) with her friends Karla and Darcie. She was passionate about cooking, enjoying her morning coffee and the beauty of the ocean. Her quick wit kept everyone in her life on their toes. Despite health challenges later in life, she never lost that expressive, joyful energy that made her so unforgettable.

Cindy spoke often and with great pride about her beloved grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She felt a deep desire to connect with them, and although her time with them was limited, she treasured it deeply.

In the last 12 years of her life, she lived alongside her roomate Gary, who was a kind companion to her, helping care for her two fur babies, Gracie and Charlie.

Cindy Palmatier was a force. She leaves behind not only an immense community of friends and family that will miss her, but an unmatchable optimism, charisma, and tenacity that was so uniquely her.

Cindy’s family would like to thank the countless medical staff, close friends, and family who provided her with care and compassion for so many years.

A private memorial is being held to honor Cindy’s life and legacy.
