Press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:
On Monday, September 28, 2026, at 15:03 hours, Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the 2100 block of Broadway in Eureka. Humboldt Bay Fire responded with three engines, one ladder truck, and a Battalion Chief. Engine 8113 was the first-arriving unit and initially found no smoke showing from the exterior of a four-story hotel.
Upon investigation, Engine 8113 located a smoldering fire in the roof and wall adjacent to the first-floor interior swimming area. Access to the fire was limited, requiring crews to use power saws and hand tools to open portions of the roof and wall.
Battalion 8104 arrived on scene and assumed Broadway Command, declaring an offensive fire attack. Incoming units were assigned to assist with fire attack, check for fire extension within the walls, conduct salvage operations, and remove smoke from the building. The fire caused light smoke inside the hotel. A full evacuation of hotel guests was not necessary due to the small size of the fire. Smoke conditions throughout the building were continuously monitored.
Humboldt Bay Fire remained on scene for approximately 2 ½ hours. Humboldt Bay Fire would like to thank Arcata Fire District and Samoa Fire for providing coverage in our jurisdiction during this incident.
An investigation was performed to find the cause and origin of the fire. The cause is still under investigation. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
Humboldt Bay Fire would like to remind everyone to call 911 immediately if there is an emergency.
