The Eureka Theater, Eureka’s Art Deco movie palace, has come a long way since volunteers began refurbishing it several years ago. But the roof still needs fixing, and that’ll be expensive. However, Sara Bareilles, Eureka’s own pop queen, is pitching in. The theater is screening her new documentary, and all the proceeds will go towards replacing it.

The documentary, Sara Bareilles: Good Grief, follows the creation of her latest album, which came out late last month. The screening will be held Sep. 19 at 6:30 p.m. 

Bareilles said on her Instagram that she’d also make a donation to the theater. 

“I hope you all come out and support this beautiful part of our community and support each other,” she said. “And bring some tissues, because I cry a lot in the movie.”

Bareilles has played at least one concert at the Eureka Theater in 2007. 

“Sara has generously given her blessing for us to use this screening as a fundraiser,” wrote Nate Adams, General Manager of the Eureka Theater in a statement. “Our team has identified the roof replacement as our top priority. This event will help us take a major step toward protecting this historic building for the community.”
