A. 4460 : Make Recommendations on Inclusionary Zoning and Density Bonus Ordinances

The Planning Commission is being asked to review and make recommendations on Inclusionary Zoning and Density Bonus ordinances to ensure affordable housing solutions in the city. The Inclusionary Zoning ordinance would require a certain percentage of new housing units to be rented or sold to low-income households. The City Council has directed staff to develop these ordinances and the Commission’s recommendations will be presented to the Council for further consideration. This is an important step in updating affordable housing regulations in the city.

… or, as a World War I infantryman's letter home to his sweetheart!

My Dearest Jane,

I hope this letter finds you well and safe. I am writing to you from the trenches, under heavy fire from the German artillery. The sounds of explosions and gunfire surround me, but my thoughts are with you, my love.

I wanted to update you on the Planning Commission meeting that took place recently. The Council has directed staff to develop an Inclusionary Zoning ordinance to ensure that market rate projects contribute to the City’s affordable housing solutions. They also brought forward amendments to the City’s Density Bonus ordinance to comply with State law.

The Planning Commission has been given the opportunity to provide early input on these ordinances. They will make a recommendation to the Council based on their review and public input. I believe this is a step in the right direction to help those in need of affordable housing.

The proposed Inclusionary Zoning ordinance includes concessions and incentives for developers to build rent or sale restricted units. This will help make projects feasible without a City subsidy. The Density Bonus ordinance has been amended to align with State law, making it more efficient and adaptable to changes.

I miss you more than words can express, my darling Jane. Please know that I am thinking of you constantly, even in the midst of this chaos. I pray for our safe reunion soon.

With all my love,

Charles
