… or, as a fantasy story!

Once upon a time in the mystical city of Arcata, the Planning Commission gathered to discuss a very important matter - the approval of the Eco-Groovy Deals Design Review Permit for a Master Sign Plan. The Director of Community Development, David Loya, along with Planner II, Kelsey Fletterick, presented the proposal to the Honorable Chair and Commissioners.

The applicant, a mysterious tenant, sought entitlements for a Master Sign Plan to increase the total sign area from 20 square feet to 60.5 square feet. The proposed plan included a new 44.4 square foot aluminum sign to replace the existing one on the upper façade, as well as approximately 16 square feet of vinyl window signage. The magical property was located in the Commercial Central zoning district within the Plaza Area Historic District.

The existing unpermitted signage had faded over time and was in desperate need of replacing. The proposed replacement signage would improve the exterior appearance through durable, professionally designed materials. The wall sign would feature a digitally printed face sealed with a clear finish on composite aluminum, designed to withstand the elements for up to 10 years. The sign would be mounted using stainless steel screws attached to a redwood frame painted gold to match the building’s façade.

The proposed signage incorporated blue and green brand colors on a white background, with the blue complementing the existing blue stripes on the building’s façade. The placement and scale of the signs were carefully considered to ensure they did not detract from the architectural cohesion of the neighborhood. The signs were designed by Visual Concepts, a renowned sign company, and met all of the City’s sign standards.

As the Planning Commission deliberated over the proposal, a sense of magic filled the room. The walls seemed to shimmer with unseen energy, and whispers of approval echoed through the chamber. The Commissioners were enchanted by the thought of a beautifully designed sign adorning the historic building, bringing new life and energy to the neighborhood.

After careful consideration, the Planning Commission approved the proposed Master Sign Plan, much to the delight of the applicant. The mystical energy of Arcata seemed to hum with joy at the decision, as if celebrating the harmonious blend of modern design and historical charm.

And so, the Eco-Groovy Deals Design Review Permit for a Master Sign Plan was granted, ushering in a new era of beauty and magic for the enchanted city of Arcata.
