a. Approve Gateway Use Permit and Gateway Design Review Permit for Yurok Natural Resource Center Interior and Exterior Renovations and Site Improvements at 820 N Street; File No. 256-009-DR-MUP

The Yurok Tribe is planning to renovate a site to create a Natural Resources Campus. The project involves changes to existing buildings and site improvements. The campus will support environmental programs and potentially accommodate up to 39 employees. The project requires approval from the Planning Commission due to deviations from building design standards. The project includes features for sustainability and native landscaping. The staff recommends approval of the project with certain conditions to ensure compliance. The project is also deemed to have minimal environmental impact based on the California Environmental Quality Act guidelines.

… or, as a Dungeons & Dragons campaign!

The Yurok Natural Resources Campus has been a beacon of knowledge and research in the region for many years, but with the proposed renovations and improvements, it is about to become an even greater hub of activity. As the adventurers in this campaign, you are tasked with exploring the newly renovated campus and uncovering any hidden secrets or potential dangers that may arise.

Upon arriving at the Yurok Natural Resources Campus, you are greeted by the stunning sight of the newly redesigned Buildings A, B, C, and D. The exterior renovations have brought new life to the once dilapidated structures, and the landscape is adorned with native plant species of traditional Yurok significance. As you make your way through the courtyard and past the covered outdoor work area, you can sense a feeling of rejuvenation and purpose in the air.

Your first task is to investigate Building A, the main structure of the campus. As you enter the building, you are met with a mix of office spaces and research laboratories. The walls are lined with maps of the surrounding ecosystem and charts detailing the progress of various restoration projects. Suddenly, you hear a faint rustling coming from one of the storage rooms. Will you investigate the source of the noise or continue exploring the building?

As you delve deeper into the campus, you uncover a series of interconnected tunnels beneath the buildings. These tunnels were not part of the original project plans, and their existence raises more questions than answers. Could there be a hidden passage leading to a long-forgotten chamber or perhaps a secret laboratory where forbidden experiments were conducted? Your curiosity leads you to explore the tunnels, but be wary of what you may find lurking in the shadows.

As you navigate the underground labyrinth, you come across a sealed chamber with strange markings etched into its stone walls. The air grows colder, and a feeling of unease washes over you. Suddenly, the ground beneath you trembles, and the chamber begins to shake violently. The walls crack, and a dark, otherworldly force emerges from the depths. You have awoken a long-dormant entity that threatens to engulf the entire campus in its malevolent grasp.

It is up to you and your fellow adventurers to confront this ancient evil and prevent it from spreading its influence throughout the Yurok Natural Resources Campus. Will you be able to harness the power of the land and the knowledge of the tribe to defeat this supernatural foe, or will you fall victim to its insidious machinations? The fate of the campus and all who dwell within its walls rests in your hands. Embark on this epic quest and uncover the mysteries that lie hidden within the renovated halls of the Yurok Natural Resources Campus.

… or, as a Funkadelic song!

“Funky Zoning Code”

(Verse 1)
We got a report from the planning commission
Looking to update the zoning code edition
It’s been too long since we made a revision
Gotta align with the General Plan’s vision

(Pre-Chorus)
Got Lisa Wise Consulting in the mix
To make sure our zoning’s up to date and fixed
Gonna streamline those permits real quick
And keep up with the state of the art in this

(Chorus)
Funky zoning code, gotta make it right
Gonna discuss and debate all through the night
Making changes to neighborhoods and zones
Gonna update the code for our city’s own

(Verse 2)
Design review process, gotta make it smooth
Gotta think about those historic landmarks, too
Combining zones, which ones do we choose
Planned development permits, what’s the news?

(Pre-Chorus)
Community benefits, do they still make sense
Inclusionary zoning, let’s not be on the fence
Indoor bike parking, do we need that space
Woodburning stoves, can we find a better place?

(Chorus)
Funky zoning code, gotta make it right
Gonna discuss and debate all through the night
Making changes to neighborhoods and zones
Gonna update the code for our city’s own

(Bridge)
Residential in commercial mixed-use
Let’s make sure it’s the right choice to choose
Using the decision framework, we’ll make a plan
To update the zoning code, gonna take a stand

(Chorus)
Funky zoning code, gotta make it right
Gonna discuss and debate all through the night
Making changes to neighborhoods and zones
Gonna update the code for our city’s own

(Outro)
Funky zoning code, gonna get it done
For our city’s future, we’ll be second to none
With the planning commission leading the way
We’ll update the code, so we can all say, hey!
