1. 2024-25 Mid-Year Update to Fee Schedule

The Eureka City Council is discussing proposed changes to the fees and charges for City services. The council is recommending holding a public hearing and adopting a resolution to establish new fees or change existing ones. The changes are based on the actual cost of providing services and materials in different departments. The council aims to review fees annually to ensure financial responsibility and assess revenue generation opportunities.

… or, as a heartbreaking country/western song!

Verse 1:
I walked into City Hall, heart heavy with dread
For they were about to raise the fees, take more from my bread
I sat and I listened, as they discussed and debated
My pockets already empty, my spirit deflated

Chorus:
Oh, Eureka City Council, can’t you see
Your fee hikes are breaking the backs of folks like me
I work hard for my money, just to make ends meet
But now I don’t know how I’ll afford to put shoes on my feet

Verse 2:
They talked of fiscal impacts, no budget relief in sight
Just another burden for us to bear, another sleepless night
I thought of the dreams I had, of a better life ahead
Now I’m drowning in fees, sinking like lead

Chorus:
Oh, Eureka City Council, can’t you see
Your fee hikes are breaking the backs of folks like me
I work hard for my money, just to make ends meet
But now I don’t know how I’ll afford to put shoes on my feet

Bridge:
I used to have hope, I used to believe
But now all I feel is aching, and a growing sense of grief
I pray for a miracle, a change of fate
But it’s hard to see a future, burdened by this weight

Chorus:
Oh, Eureka City Council, can’t you see
Your fee hikes are breaking the backs of folks like me
I work hard for my money, just to make ends meet
But now I don’t know how I’ll afford to put shoes on my feet

Outro:
So I’ll keep on fighting, I’ll keep on pushing through
But I’ll never forget the day, when it all came crashing through
Eureka City Council, you’ve left me in despair
With your heartless fee hikes, too much for me to bear.

… or, as a sea shanty!

(Verse 1)
In Eureka City by the bay,
The council met one fateful day,
To discuss the shelters for those in need,
To provide a place where they can feed.

(Chorus)
Hoist the sails and gather ‘round,
For Shelter Opportunities we’ve found,
Designate two members to lead the way,
In establishing shelter space without delay.

(Verse 2)
The City Manager and staff they say,
Will guide the council on this new pathway,
To ensure effective governance and communication,
For those seeking shelter in our great nation.

(Chorus)
Hoist the sails and gather ‘round,
For Shelter Opportunities we’ve found,
Designate two members to lead the way,
In establishing shelter space without delay.

(Verse 3)
No fiscal impact, it’s in the budget they claim,
To provide a shelter, it’s all the same,
With the Chief Building Official and Police Chief,
We’ll create a safe haven beyond belief.

(Chorus)
Hoist the sails and gather ‘round,
For Shelter Opportunities we’ve found,
Designate two members to lead the way,
In establishing shelter space without delay.

(Outro)
So let’s all come together as one,
To help those in need until the day is done,
With the council’s guidance and staff’s support,
We’ll create a shelter of the finest sort.

… or, as a bedtime story!

Once upon a time, in the beautiful city of Eureka, there were many wonderful parks where the residents loved to spend their days playing, relaxing, and enjoying nature. But the city council felt that these parks could use some updates and improvements to make them even better for everyone to enjoy.

Donna Wood, from the Community Services Department, had been hard at work preparing a report for the city council about the recent park updates. The council was gathered together to hear her recommendations and discuss the future of Eureka’s parks.

As the meeting began, Donna presented her report, highlighting all the recent improvements that had been made to parks such as Da’ Yas Park, Grace Marton Memorial Park, Highland Park, Del Norte Dog Park, Carson Park, and Sequoia Park. The council members listened attentively as Donna shared all of the new features and enhancements that had been added to each park.

There was talk of new playground equipment, upgraded amenities, improved walking trails, and even plans for more environmentally friendly initiatives in the parks. The council members were impressed with all the hard work that had been done to make the parks better for the community.

After the presentation, it was time for the council members to discuss and make decisions about the future of Eureka’s parks. They were excited about the progress that had been made and eager to continue making improvements to ensure that the parks remained beautiful and inviting for everyone in the city.

As the meeting drew to a close, the council members approved the recommendations and agreed to continue working on improving the parks for the benefit of all the residents of Eureka. With their dedication and hard work, the parks would only continue to get better and better.

And so, the city of Eureka slept peacefully, knowing that their parks were in good hands and that they would continue to be a cherished place for everyone to enjoy for years to come. The end.
