1. Briggs Alterations to Existing Addition Location: 2136 2nd Street; APN: 002-094-004 Project: Historic Preservation HP-24-0005

A property owner wants to make changes to their historical property, such as replacing siding and adding floor space. The changes are being reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission to ensure they comply with guidelines for preserving historical buildings. The project is not expected to have a negative impact on the historical significance of the property and is exempt from certain environmental review processes.

… or, as a nursery rhyme!

In the town of Eureka, on 2nd Street so neat,
Ryan Briggs had a historic residence to complete.
He wanted to make some alterations, you see,
To match the rest of the house, historically.

He replaced the siding, added more floor space,
And removed a doorway with grace.
The Historic Preservation Commission gave it a look,
And found the project exempt from CEQA, by the book.

With conditions approved, the work could begin,
To preserve the historic character within.
The old addition, not built quite right,
Was now restored to its original light.

They used Cedar siding, to match the rest,
And preserved the details that were the best.
The east-facing facade, now unadorned,
Restored to its original form.

The history of the place was kept intact,
No false additions, that’s a fact.
The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards upheld,
To ensure the project was historically held.

And so, in Eureka, on 2nd Street so fine,
The Briggs residence stood, a historic sign.
Preserved and restored for years to come,
Thanks to the work that was carefully done.
