1. Arwood Vacation Rental Location: 2604 I Street; APN: 011-042-002 Project: Minor Use Permit MUP-23-0006

The Arwood family wants to turn their single-family home into a vacation rental in the Residential Low zoning district. The proposal requires a Minor Use Permit and has passed the necessary criteria including consistency with the General Plan and Zoning Code, suitable for the site, and adequate for the city’s services and infrastructure. The proposal conforms to regulations for vacation rentals and has a maximum occupancy of eight adults, no parties, and off-street parking for two vehicles. Referrals were made to agencies and City departments who gave no comments stating the proposed vacation rental would be harmful. The proposal is exempt from California Environmental Quality Act. The Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing and adopt a Resolution approving the Minor Use Permit.

2. 5th and Myrtle Right-of-Way Vacation and Surplus Property Location: Southwest of the southwesterly corner of Myrtle Avenue and 5th Street; APN: Adjacent to

This report discusses a proposal by the City of Eureka and Pacific Outfitters to vacate and surplus a portion of 5th Street and Myrtle Avenue rights-of-way. The purpose is to dispose of city-owned land and support a local business by allowing Pacific Outfitters to purchase the properties and use them as a parking lot, parking lot entrance, and grassy strip. The report includes a map of the location and analyzes the environmental impacts, as well as the public health, safety, and welfare. The conclusion recommends the Planning Commission adopt resolutions approving the proposal and recommending the City Council approve the application to vacate and surplus the land.

… or, as a conversation between Beavis and Butt-head!

Beavis: Hey Butt-head, check it out, it’s like some kind of report or something.

Butt-head: Yeah, dude, looks like some kinda plan or whatever.

Beavis: It’s like, about some place called 5th and Myrtle and they wanna like, get rid of it or something.

Butt-head: Yeah, they wanna vacation and surplus a portion of the 5th Street and Myrtle Avenue rights-of-way.

Beavis: Huh huh, vacation. I could use a vacation, dude.

Butt-head: No, dumbass, it means they’re gonna get rid of it.

Beavis: Oh, heh heh, well that makes more sense.

Butt-head: Yeah, and it’s for that Pacific Outfitters company.

Beavis: Whoa! You mean like, that place where they sell like, camping stuff and shit?

Butt-head: Yeah, I guess.

Beavis: Cool, maybe we could like, go there and get some stuff.

Butt-head: Yeah, like some fire starters or something.

Beavis: Heh heh, yeah. Wait, what’s CEQA?

Butt-head: I don’t know, dude. Sounds like some kinda government thing.

Beavis: Oh yeah, they gotta talk to the Planning Commission and stuff.

Butt-head: Yeah, and they gotta hold a public hearing and adopt resolutions.

Beavis: Whoa, sounds like a lot of work.

Butt-head: Yeah, it’s like they gotta make sure everything’s cool before they can get rid of it.

Beavis: Yeah, they don’t want to like, mess anything up or whatever.

Butt-head: Yeah, and we don’t want them to mess up our camping trip.

Beavis: Heh heh, yeah. Let’s go get some fire starters.

Butt-head: Yeah, and maybe some beef jerky too.
