1. Bones Vacation Rental Application Determination Appeal Location: 1322 H Street; APN: 005-036-005 Project: Appeal AP-26-2 (appeal for Vacation Rental Permit Application VR-25-4)

Adam Bones submitted an application for a vacation rental permit, but it was never accepted for processing due to missing information. The city changed its regulations, requiring vacation rentals to be approved through a business license process. Bones appealed the decision, arguing that his application should be processed under the old regulations. The staff recommends denying the appeal and affirming the closure of the original application. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to make a final decision.

1. General Plan Conformance Review for a New Psychiatric Health Facility and Crisis

The County of Humboldt wants to build a new psychiatric health facility and crisis stabilization unit in downtown Eureka. The project will replace a parking lot and provide services for adolescents and adults. The Planning Commission needs to determine if the project aligns with the city’s General Plan. While the project supports some aspects of the General Plan, there are areas where it may not fully conform. The City’s review is advisory, and the County is responsible for conducting an environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act.

… or, as a World War I infantryman's letter home to his sweetheart!

Dear Jane,

I hope this letter finds you well. As I sit here in the trenches, under heavy fire from German artillery, my thoughts are consumed by you. I long for the day when I can hold you in my arms again and whisper my love for you.

In the midst of this chaos, I find solace in thinking of our future together. I dream of coming home to you, safe and sound, and building a life filled with love and happiness. But for now, I must focus on the task at hand and do my duty to defend our country.

I pray for your safety and well-being every day, my dearest Jane. Please know that you are always in my heart, giving me strength and courage to face the challenges of war. I will make it through this, for you and for our future together.

With all my love,

Charles
