1. Ratification of Local Emergency Proclamation Due to a 5-Alarm Structure Fire of Multiple Commercial Buildings at 10th and H Street, Arcata, CA
The Sheriff of Humboldt County has issued a proclamation of a local emergency due to a 5-alarm structure fire in Arcata, CA on January 2, 2026. The Board of Supervisors is being asked to ratify this proclamation in order to seek state and federal funding for response efforts. The fire has caused water runoff with potentially hazardous substances, posing a threat to public health and the environment. Ratifying the proclamation would allow the county to access funding for cleanup and restoration efforts.

Once upon a time, in the County of Humboldt, there was a bustling little town called Arcata. The town was known for its charming streets, friendly residents, and beautiful scenery. But one fateful night, a 5-alarm structure fire broke out at 10th and H Street, engulfing multiple commercial buildings in flames.
As the fire raged on, the brave firefighters of Arcata worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze and save as many buildings as they could. The smoke billowed into the night sky, casting an eerie glow over the town. The residents watched in horror as their beloved buildings were consumed by the fire.
Realizing the severity of the situation, Sheriff Honsal issued a Local Emergency Proclamation, declaring a state of emergency in Arcata. The water runoff from the fire suppression efforts posed a threat to public health and safety, as well as the environment. It was clear that the town needed assistance beyond its own capabilities.
The Board of Supervisors gathered to discuss the situation and make a decision. After much deliberation, they voted to ratify the Local Emergency Proclamation. This would allow the county to seek state and federal funding to aid in the recovery efforts.
But the story doesn’t end there. In the days and weeks that followed, the community came together to rebuild and support one another. Volunteers from near and far offered their assistance, donations poured in, and slowly but surely, Arcata began to rise from the ashes.
And so, as the residents of Arcata lay their heads down to rest each night, they find solace in knowing that their town is strong and resilient. The memory of the 5-alarm fire may linger, but it serves as a reminder of the power of community, unity, and hope. And that, my dear friends, is the story of how Arcata overcame the 5-alarm fire and emerged even stronger than before. Goodnight.
