1. Ratify Agreement with Rendezvous Music and Vending and Approve the First Amendment to the Agreement (4/5th Vote Required)

The Department of Aviation is recommending that the Board of Supervisors ratify an agreement with a vending company and approve an amendment to the agreement. The agreement includes adding new vending options at the airport terminal and is part of a strategic plan to enhance services for airport users. The agreement is funded by the Airport Enterprise Fund and is expected to increase revenue for the Department of Aviation. There will be no impacts on current staffing levels. It’s important to approve the agreement to provide more vending options at the airport.

… or, as a fantasy story!

In the County of Humboldt, there existed a magical airport where travelers could find not only transportation to distant lands but also a touch of enchantment in the form of Rendezvous Music and Vending. This unique vendor offered not just the typical snacks and drinks, but also magical items and trinkets that could only be found in the mystical realm of Humboldt.

The Department of Aviation had long been in partnership with Rendezvous Music and Vending, bringing joy and wonder to travelers passing through the California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport. However, it was on this particular day, the 3rd of March in the year 2026, that a special meeting was called by the Board of Supervisors to discuss and ratify a new agreement with the magical vendor.

As the supervisors gathered in the grand meeting hall, the air crackled with anticipation. The Head of Aviation stood before them, presenting the proposal to not only ratify the existing agreement but also to approve a first amendment that would bring even more magic to the airport terminal. It was explained that the addition of Humboldt Made vending options would further enhance the traveler experience, offering locally made goods and products that celebrated the unique spirit of Humboldt.

The Board of Supervisors listened intently, their eyes filled with wonder at the possibilities that lay before them. It was a unanimous decision to ratify the agreement and approve the first amendment, allowing Rendezvous Music and Vending to continue spreading their enchantment throughout the airport.

With the stroke of a pen, the Director of Aviation signed the first amendment, sealing the deal that would bring new vending options and increased revenue to the airport. As the ink dried, a faint shimmer filled the room, and a soft melody drifted through the air, as if in celebration of the magical partnership that had been forged that day.

From that moment on, travelers passing through the California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport would be greeted not only by the usual hustle and bustle of travel, but also by a touch of magic and wonder, thanks to the ongoing partnership between the Department of Aviation and Rendezvous Music and Vending. And so, the airport became a place where dreams took flight, and where the ordinary was transformed into the extraordinary.

The County of Humboldt is planning to proclaim March 15-21, 2026 as Sunshine Week, which promotes open government, transparency, and the public’s right to access information. This proclamation reaffirms the county’s commitment to accountability and public trust. There is no financial impact to adopting this proclamation. The Board of Supervisors is recommended to adopt the proclamation.

— LoCOBot

… or, as a romance story!

As Supervisor Mike Wilson stood before the Board of Supervisors in the County of Humboldt, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. He had been working tirelessly to ensure transparency and accountability in local government, and now, he was presenting a proclamation to proclaim March 15-21, 2026 as Sunshine Week in Humboldt County.

As he spoke passionately about the importance of open government and the public’s right to access information, his eyes scanned the room, pausing on a particular individual in the crowd. Her name was Emma, and she was a member of the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County. Emma had been a vocal advocate for transparency in government, and Mike was drawn to her fiery spirit and unwavering dedication to the cause.

After the proclamation was adopted unanimously by the Board of Supervisors, Mike approached Emma, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “I couldn’t have done it without your support,” he said, his voice soft and sincere.

Emma returned his smile, her eyes sparkling with admiration. “It was a team effort,” she replied, her hand brushing against his ever so gently.

And so began a whirlwind romance between Supervisor Mike Wilson and Emma, the passionate activist. Their shared commitment to transparency and public participation brought them closer together, igniting a spark that neither could deny.

Throughout Sunshine Week, they worked side by side, organizing events and spreading awareness about the importance of open government. But amidst the chaos and excitement, their connection grew deeper, blossoming into a love that neither of them could ignore.

On the final day of Sunshine Week, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the county, Mike took Emma by the hand and led her to a quiet spot overlooking the town. With a heart full of emotion, he dropped to one knee and declared his love for her, promising to always stand by her side in their fight for a more transparent and accountable government.

Tears welled up in Emma’s eyes as she accepted his proposal, knowing that they were not just partners in activism, but partners in life. As they embraced under the setting sun, they knew that their love story was just beginning, with countless Sunshine Weeks ahead of them to share their passion for each other and their shared mission.

And so, in the County of Humboldt, Supervisor Mike Wilson and Emma became the living embodiment of Sunshine Week, a beacon of light and love in a world that valued transparency and openness above all else. Together, they would continue to fight for a better tomorrow, one where love and transparency reigned supreme.

6. Letter of Support for Acquisition of Eel Rock Ranch by The Wildlands Conservancy

The Board of Supervisors is being asked to support The Wildlands Conservancy’s acquisition of Eel Rock Ranch, a 1,350-acre property along the Eel River. The acquisition will protect habitats, cultural sites, and provide public access. The Board is recommended to authorize the Chair to sign a letter of support. The funding comes from the General Fund and there is no financial or staffing impact. The action aligns with the county’s priorities of conservation, climate resilience, and economic vitality.

— LoCOBot

… or, as a Pokemon duel!

Supervisor Mike Wilson stood before the Board of Supervisors, his expression serious as he presented his recommendation to support the acquisition of Eel Rock Ranch by The Wildlands Conservancy.

“Board of Supervisors, I urge you to authorize the Chair to sign the Letter of Support for this important conservation effort,” Supervisor Wilson began. “The acquisition of this 1,350-acre property along the Wild and Scenic Eel River is crucial for protecting riparian and anadromous fish habitat, preserving culturally significant sites, and providing managed public access for sustainable recreation.”

As he finished speaking, a mysterious figure appeared before the Board of Supervisors. It was none other than Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, a notorious Pokemon organization known for their unethical practices.

“Supervisor Wilson, your support for this conservation effort threatens our plans for Eel Rock Ranch,” Giovanni sneered. “I challenge you to a Pokemon duel to determine the fate of this property. If I win, Team Rocket will take control of the ranch. If you win, I will withdraw my forces.”

Supervisor Wilson knew he had to protect the Eel Rock Ranch at all costs. He reached for his Poke Ball and released his trusty partner, Blastoise. Giovanni countered by sending out his powerful Gyarados.

The battlefield was set, with the Eel River flowing peacefully in the background. Blastoise and Gyarados faced off, ready for battle. Blastoise used Hydro Pump to unleash a powerful stream of water against Gyarados, but the fierce Pokemon retaliated with Aqua Tail, landing a devastating blow.

As the duel raged on, Blastoise and Gyarados exchanged powerful attacks, each determined to emerge victorious. In the end, Blastoise’s determination and strength proved superior, as it unleashed a final Hydro Cannon that knocked out Gyarados.

Giovanni begrudgingly withdrew his forces, acknowledging Supervisor Wilson’s victory in the Pokemon duel. The Board of Supervisors cheered as Supervisor Wilson secured the support for the acquisition of Eel Rock Ranch by The Wildlands Conservancy, ensuring its protection for generations to come.

7. Extension of Extra Help Hours for the County Administrative Office, Purchasing Division 3555115 (4/5 Vote Required)

The County of Humboldt is asking the Board of Supervisors to approve more hours for an extra help employee, Miles Sorensen, in the Purchasing Division. This will allow him to work more hours and help with fiscal duties while a permanent position is vacant. The cost of this extension is $34,206 for the fiscal year 2025-26, and will be covered by salary savings in the Purchasing Division’s budget. It is recommended to approve this extension to ensure smooth operations in the Purchasing Division.

The Board of Supervisors for the County of Humboldt will be meeting on 3/10/2026 to discuss the extension of extra help hours for the County Administrative Office’s Purchasing Division. Let’s dive into the details of File #: 26-162.

The recommendation on the table is to approve a waiver of the 960 extra-help hours limitation for Miles Sorensen to a maximum of 1,920 hours for fiscal year 2025-26. This decision requires a 4/5 vote from the Board of Supervisors.

Miles Sorensen has been assisting with Purchasing’s Fiscal Assistant duties while the position is vacant, making it crucial to extend his extra-help hours to ensure the continued operations of important administrative tasks.

The financial impact of extending Sorensen’s hours would double the anticipated cost to $34,206 in salaries for FY 2025-26. However, there are salary savings in Fund 3555 to cover this additional expense.

It’s important to note that all extra-help employees working beyond 1,000 hours are subject to paying into the California Public Employee Retirement System, which has been factored into the financial estimates provided.

Not extending extra-help hours for Purchasing staff may significantly reduce their capacity to manage administrative programs efficiently, so it’s crucial for the Board of Supervisors to carefully consider this recommendation.

Stay tuned for updates on the County of Humboldt’s decision regarding the extension of extra help hours for the Purchasing Division. The outcome of this discussion could have a significant impact on administrative operations. #HumboldtCounty #BoardofSupervisors #AdministrativeOffice #PurchasingDivision.

9. Request to Increase Ambulance Fee for Service Areas 1 (Northwestern Humboldt County)

The County of Humboldt is considering a request to increase ambulance fees in the northwestern part of the county. Arcata-Mad River Ambulance, LLC. wants to raise their rates to cover increased costs and remain competitive. If approved, the rates would increase over three years. The increase would not affect the county budget and is supported by financial analysis. Not approving the increase could impact the ambulance company’s ability to provide services.

— LoCOBot

Kaylee: Ugh, can you believe they’re trying to increase ambulance fees in Humboldt County? Like, as if we don’t already pay enough for healthcare?

Brianna: I know, right? It’s such a scam. They just want to squeeze more money out of us while claiming it’s for “employee wages” and “operating costs”. Yeah, okay.

Madison: Typical. Greedy corporations always looking for ways to line their pockets. And of course, they let us know last minute so we can’t even do anything about it.

Kaylee: Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just pocketing the extra cash for themselves. They probably don’t even need it for what they’re claiming.

Brianna: We should start a petition or something to stop this. It’s not fair to the people in Humboldt County who already struggle to afford healthcare.

Madison: Definitely. Let’s show them we won’t stand for this kind of blatant money-grabbing. Time to take a stand against corporate greed!

The Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health Branch proposed an amendment to the Humboldt County Code regarding Tobacco Retailer Licensing. The proposed changes clarify the administrative review process and jurisdiction. The Board of Supervisors is recommended to adopt the ordinance, which does not have any anticipated financial impact. They want to make sure that retailers comply,

To pass this ordinance and create a healthier community.
They recommend adoption, without a doubt,
To protect our citizens from tobacco’s harmful clout.

For everyone to enjoy, in any place.
So let’s support this change and make it right,
For the County of Humboldt, shining bright.

11. Adoption of a New Agricultural Aide Job Classification

The Human Resources Department is recommending the adoption of a new Agricultural Aide job classification to support seasonal field operations. This classification is designed to align with the duties of the position and allow for the recruitment of qualified candidates without requiring higher-level credentials. The position will be filled on an extra-help basis and funded through the General Fund. … or, as a right-wing radio talk show hosted by Merv "The Beast" Tarkington!

Merv “The Beast” Tarkington: Welcome back, my fellow patriots! This is Merv “The Beast” Tarkington coming to you live from the heart of Humboldt County, where the liberal elites are at it again.

Today, we are talking about the County of Humboldt’s proposal to adopt a new Agricultural Aide job classification. Now, on the surface, this may seem like a harmless administrative change. But let me tell you, folks, this is just another example of government overreach and waste.

The Human Resources Department, in cahoots with the Agricultural Commissioner, want to create a new job classification to support seasonal field operations. What they fail to mention is that this new classification will cost taxpayers nearly $20,000! And for what? To hire extra help for a seasonal position that doesn’t even justify a full-time employee.

And get this, they want to pay these Agricultural Aides at a salary range 10% below the Agricultural Weights and Measures Inspector I. Why pay someone less for doing essentially the same job? It’s a slap in the face to hardworking Americans who are just trying to make ends meet.

But here’s the kicker, folks. They want to use the General Fund to pay for this nonsense. That’s your hard-earned money being wasted on unnecessary government bureaucracy. And don’t even get me started on the fact that they plan to use revenue from contracts with the California Department of Food and Agriculture to cover the cost. It’s a shell game, my friends, and we are the ones being played.

So what can we do about it, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. We need to hold our elected officials accountable. We need to demand fiscal responsibility and transparency. And most importantly, we need to say enough is enough. No more wasteful spending, no more big government interference in our lives.

So, my fellow patriots, I urge you to write to the Board of Supervisors and let your voices be heard. Tell them we will not stand for this kind of reckless spending. Stand up for freedom, stand up for fiscal responsibility, and most importantly, stand up for America. Until next time, this is Merv “The Beast” Tarkington signing off. Stay strong, stay vigilant, and God bless America!

Title: From Rookie to Sheriff: A Deputy’s Journey in Humboldt County

As a fresh-faced recruit fresh out of the academy, Deputy Sam Adams was eager to start his career in law enforcement in the County of Humboldt. Little did he know, his journey would be filled with challenges, growth, and unexpected twists and turns that would shape him into the leader he would eventually become.

Assigned to the Sheriff’s Department, Sam quickly learned the ropes from his seasoned colleagues, including Field Training Officers who guided him through the complexities of the job. As he navigated the Criminal Investigation Division Rotational Assignments and Longevity Incentive Pay, Sam realized that there was more to being a deputy than just catching criminals. He developed a keen eye for detail and a strong sense of justice that guided his actions in the field.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Sam. The Bomb Squad incentive pay and Educational Certificate Pay (POST Certificate Pay) presented new challenges that pushed him to expand his knowledge and skillset. The pressure to excel in these areas forced him to confront his own limitations and push past them, ultimately becoming a better deputy and a more well-rounded individual.

As CalPERS identified concerns with the department’s compensation practices, Sam found himself in the middle of a bureaucratic tangle that threatened the pensionable status of his hard-earned rewards. With the guidance of his superiors and the support of his fellow deputies, Sam navigated the complexities of the Side Letter of Agreement, ensuring that his efforts would not go unrecognized or unrewarded.

Through it all, Sam never lost sight of his goal: to serve and protect the community he loved. As he rose through the ranks, from rookie deputy to seasoned veteran, Sam embodied the values of integrity, dedication, and courage that defined the men and women of the Sheriff’s Department.

Finally, after years of hard work and dedication, Sam found himself standing at the helm of the department as the newly appointed Sheriff of Humboldt County. Reflecting on his journey from eager recruit to experienced leader, Sam knew that every challenge, every setback, and every triumph had brought him to this moment.

And as he looked out at the deputies under his command, Sam knew that his journey was far from over. With a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to excellence, Sheriff Sam Adams vowed to continue serving his community with honor, integrity, and compassion, leading by example and inspiring those around him to strive for greatness in the noble profession of law enforcement.

14. Approval of State Standard Agreement between the Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF) and the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) for the Jail-Based Competency Treatment Program (JBCT) and Supplemental Budget in the Amount of $36,076 (4/5 Vote Required)

The Humboldt County Sheriff is recommending that the Board of Supervisors approve a State Standard Agreement with the Department of State Hospitals for a Jail-Based Competency Treatment Program. This program helps inmates facing felony charges who have been declared incompetent to stand trial. The agreement includes funding for the program and the Sheriff is requesting a supplemental budget. It is important to continue this program to provide timely and necessary services to inmates in need.

— LoCOBot

… or, as a Socratic dialogue!

Socrates: Good day to you, fellow colleagues. Today’s meeting concerns the approval of a State Standard Agreement between the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and the Department of State Hospitals for the Jail-Based Competency Treatment Program, as well as a supplemental budget in the amount of $36,076. What are your thoughts on this matter?

Glaucon: It seems that this program has been beneficial in providing competency training for inmates facing felony charges who have been declared Incompetent to Stand Trial. I believe it is important to continue funding this program to help stabilize and assist these individuals.

Aristotle: I agree with Glaucon. By providing these services, we are not only aiding the inmates in understanding the court process, but also reducing the backlog of IST inmates waiting for placement in overcrowded state hospitals. It’s a win-win situation for all parties involved.

Socrates: Indeed, it appears that this program has had a positive impact on both the inmates and the correctional facility. However, I am curious about the financial impact of this agreement. Can someone shed some light on the specifics of the funding sources and expenditures?

Glaucon: According to the information provided, the funding for this program comes from the Department of State Hospitals. The budgeted expenses for the JBCT program are detailed in budget unit 1100-243200, with additional appropriation requested for the increase in expenses due to the new contract.

Aristotle: It seems that there are no anticipated changes in staffing for this program, which is reassuring. Maintaining the 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent staff dedicated to the JBCT program will ensure continuity and stability in the services provided.

Socrates: Thank you both for your insights. It appears that the staff recommendation to approve this agreement and supplemental budget is sound, given the positive impact of the JBCT program and the minimal staffing impact. Are there any further thoughts or considerations before we proceed with a vote on this matter?

Glaucon: I believe we have thoroughly discussed the benefits and financial aspects of this agreement. I am in agreement with moving forward with the staff recommendation and approving the State Standard Agreement and supplemental budget.

Aristotle: I concur with Glaucon’s assessment. It is evident that this program serves a valuable purpose in helping individuals in need of competency restoration services. I believe it is in the best interest of all involved to support and continue funding this program.

Socrates: Very well. With no further objections or concerns raised, let us proceed with a vote on approving the State Standard Agreement and supplemental budget for the Jail-Based Competency Treatment Program. Thank you both for your thoughtful contributions to this discussion.

… or, as a conversation between Beavis and Butt-head!

Beavis: Uh, hey Butt-head, what the heck is a single audit?

Butt-head: Uh, I dunno Beavis, but it sounds pretty boring.

Beavis: Yeah, like, why do we even need to know about all this financial stuff?

Butt-head: Yeah, like, who cares about internal controls and financial reporting?

Beavis: Yeah, I just wanna watch TV and eat nachos.

Butt-head: Yeah, TV and nachos are way cooler than audit reports.

Beavis: Yeah, like, um, uh, what were we talking about again?

Butt-head: Uh, something about receiving and filing audit reports or whatever. Who cares, let’s go find some nachos.

2. Sustained Finding of Violation of the Board of Supervisors Code of Conduct

The County of Humboldt is discussing a violation of the Board of Supervisors Code of Conduct by 1st District Supervisor Rex Bohn. A complaint was received in July 2025, leading to an investigation that has cost $15,991 so far. The recommendation is for the Board of Supervisors to discuss the findings and consider public censure of Supervisor Bohn. The only action that can be taken with a sustained finding is public censure, and it would require the affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the Board members present.

… or, as a horror story!

As the meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors came to order on March 10, 2026, a sense of unease filled the room. The agenda item, File #: 26-188, regarding a sustained finding of violation of the Board of Supervisors Code of Conduct had everyone on edge. The room was tense as 1st District Supervisor Rex Bohn nervously awaited the discussion that was about to unfold.

The Executive Summary outlining the sustained findings from the investigation conducted by Kramer Workplace Investigations was read aloud, detailing the alleged violations of the Code of Conduct by Supervisor Bohn. Whispers filled the room as the shocking details were revealed, causing a chill to run down the spines of those in attendance.

As the discussion continued, the atmosphere grew increasingly dark and ominous. Supervisor Bohn’s face turned pale as his colleagues condemned his actions and debated the appropriate course of action. It was clear that the Board of Supervisors was divided on the issue, with some calling for public censure while others argued for a more lenient approach.

Suddenly, a sense of dread washed over the room as a shadowy figure appeared in the corner, watching the proceedings with malevolent intent. Whispers of a curse and dark magic filled the air, sending a shiver down the spines of those present. The lights flickered ominously, casting eerie shadows on the walls, and a cold wind swept through the room, chilling everyone to the bone.

As the vote for public censure of Supervisor Bohn loomed, a sense of impending doom hung in the air. The room fell silent as each member of the Board of Supervisors made their decision, their faces pale and grim. And as the final vote was cast, a deafening scream echoed through the room, followed by a chilling laughter that sent shivers down the spines of all who heard it.

The meeting concluded with Supervisor Bohn being publicly censured by a vote of four-fifths of the Board of Supervisors. But the darkness that had descended upon the room that day lingered long after the meeting had ended, leaving a haunting presence that would haunt the County of Humboldt for years to come. And as the shadows grew longer and the night fell, whispers of a malevolent force lurking within the walls of the County building began to spread, signaling the beginning of a terrifying ordeal that would shake Humboldt to its core.

“I tell ya, I went to that presentation on veterans services the other day in Humboldt County. The only thing missing was me getting some respect! I walked in there and they were talking about mental health services, benefits, and all that jazz. I felt like a veteran of the ‘No Respect’ war!”
