1. Appoint New Member to the Humboldt County Fire Safe Council and Letter of Appreciation for Outgoing Member
Humboldt County’s Board of Supervisors is being asked to approve a new member for the Humboldt County Fire Safe Council and sign a thank-you letter for a member who is leaving. The Willow Creek Fire Safe Council nominated Andrea McBroom to replace Olivia Lopes, who is moving to other duties. The Fire Safe Council helps the county plan for wildfire safety and supports grant funding for fire prevention projects. This action will be paid for with grant money, not the county’s general fund. Keeping the council active has helped the county win over $65 million in funding for wildfire work.

… or, as Star Trek fan fiction!
Captain’s log, Stardate 94211.6.
The U.S.S. Enterprise had entered orbit above a world the charts identified, with characteristic bureaucratic understatement, as Humboldt. Its cities glittered along a rugged coastline of fog and redwood, but the crisis was not military, nor medical, nor even diplomatic.
It was procedural.
On the viewscreen, a Council chamber glowed with the severe dignity of Federation civic architecture. Commander Una leaned toward the console. “The local government is requesting approval of the Action Summary for their prior session.”
Spock raised an eyebrow. “An action summary is a concise record of actions taken by a deliberative body. Its approval confirms accuracy and authorizes signature into the official minute book.”
Scotty blinked. “You’re tellin’ me the ship’s been pulled out of warp for paperwork?”
“Not paperwork,” said Uhura. “Civil continuity.”
The chamber doors opened, and the Board of Supervisors entered, faces set with the solemn determination of people who understood that civilization was held together by motions, seconds, and the occasional unanimous consent. Their clerk approached the central podium, holding a data padd with the gravity of a treaty tablet.
“By recommendation of staff,” the clerk announced, “the Board shall approve the Action Summary for the meeting of November third, two thousand twenty-six, and authorize the Clerk and Chair to sign the Minute Book in accordance with California Government Code Section 25103.”
The room fell silent.
Picard, standing in the rear observation alcove as a courtesy liaison, clasped his hands behind his back. “It is remarkable,” he murmured, “how much of peace depends on remembering what was decided.”
A single supervisor nodded. “No financial impact,” he said.
“Then let it be so,” Picard replied.
The vote was brief. Majority carried.
As the signatures were entered into the archive, the Enterprise’s sensors registered something unusual: a subtle stabilization in local civic power fields. No explosions. No anomalies. Just the quiet triumph of recorded consensus.
Spock looked at the readout and, for perhaps the first time in his life, seemed moved.
“Captain,” he said, “the matter is complete.”
Picard smiled faintly. “And so, Mr. Spock, is history.”

3. Resolution Regarding Changes in Public Office Hours for the Department of Aviation
Humboldt County leaders are being asked to approve a new resolution that changes office hours for the Department of Aviation. The department tried shorter public hours as a test and found it helped staff work better on projects and still take meal breaks. If approved, public office hours would change from 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Staff would still work 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The new resolution would replace the old one and keep the Board in control of permanent schedule changes.

… or, as a Brazilian carnival song!
No compasso do avião, vai começar a folia,
Pra servir melhor a pista e o coração.
Refrão:
É Carnaval no aeroporto, vem ver essa evolução,
Menos pressa, mais cuidado, mais sorriso na mão.
No terreiro da gestão, todo mundo vai cantar,
Humboldt bate tambor, deixa o povo celebrar!
O papel virou batuque, a resolução sambou,
Humboldt bate tambor, deixa o povo celebrar!
No couro do surdo bate a boa decisão,
Eficiência na batida, luz no coração.
De novembro em diante, fica assim então:
Mais tempo pra servir, mais samba na missão.

1. Appointment of the 2027 Delegate and Alternate to Rural County Representatives of California Board of Directors, Golden State Finance Authority and Golden State Connect Authority
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors needs to choose one delegate and one alternate for 2027 to represent the county on three groups: Rural County Representatives of California, Golden State Finance Authority, and Golden State Connect Authority. These people serve one-year terms and sit on all three boards. The county should make the choice before December so the groups can prepare paperwork. Right now, Supervisor Bohn is the delegate and Supervisor Wilson is the alternate. The county pays a $12,000 yearly membership fee, but travel costs are reimbursed, so there is no extra cost to the county budget.

… or, as a town crier's speech!
Hear ye, hear ye! Let it be known throughout the County of Humboldt that on this tenth day of November in the year 2026, the Board of Supervisors shall consider the appointment of a delegate and alternate to serve for the year 2027 upon the boards of the Rural County Representatives of California, the Golden State Finance Authority, and the Golden State Connect Authority.
These appointees shall represent Humboldt County in all three bodies, beginning their term in January and serving for one year. The Clerk of the Board is to notify RCRC staff member Maggie Chui of the chosen appointments, so that the proper records and documents may be prepared in due time.
At present, Supervisor Bohn serves as Humboldt County’s delegate, while Supervisor Wilson serves as alternate. This matter supports the County’s Core Services and Other strategic focus, and requires no staffing impact. A membership fee of twelve thousand dollars is paid from the General Fund each year, though travel costs for the delegate are reimbursed by the respective organizations.
Citizens are reminded that this is a matter for the Board’s discretion and majority vote. Attend, observe, and stay informed, for the business of the County is the business of all!

2. Board Meeting Schedule for Calendar Year 2027
Humboldt County leaders are asked to approve the Board of Supervisors meeting calendar for 2027. The Board usually meets Tuesdays at 9 a.m., but some meetings are canceled because of holidays, conferences, and breaks. The plan keeps a winter recess and a summer recess, and changes some fifth Tuesdays to avoid long gaps between meetings. The calendar also lists dates for budget planning, employee orientation, and Measure Z work. Approving the calendar would not add new spending, but it helps county departments plan ahead and schedule important decisions.

… or, as a World War I infantryman's letter home to his sweetheart!
My dearest Jane,
I’m writing to you from the trenches, where the mud is deep and the air shakes with the roar of German guns. The shells have been falling all morning, and each blast seems to tear the world apart a little more. Still, I have a moment now, and I must use it to send you my heart.
There is talk here of schedules and duties, if you can believe it, even in this hellish place. We are told that tomorrow may bring another change, and that the days ahead must be planned with care. There are holidays, marches, and conferences, they say, as if life were still measured by paper and calendars instead of by whether a man can keep his head down long enough to live through the hour. Yet even here, amid the terror, I understand the need to hold to some order. It gives a man something to cling to when everything else is chaos.
Some days are to be set aside, not for weakness, but because the burden is too great or the roads too dangerous. Other days must go on, for the work of the country cannot simply stop. That is the strange truth of this war: even under fire, there are still meetings to be kept, decisions to be made, and burdens to be carried.
I think often of you, Jane, and of quieter places where no cannon can reach. If I am spared, I shall come home and leave this dreadful counting of days behind me. Until then, your love is the one steady thing in all this darkness.
Yours always,
Charles
