(UPDATE) FATAL HIGHWAY 101 CRASH: All Lanes Closed South of Laytonville

UPDATE, 1:49 p.m.: From the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office:
Highway 101 is CLOSED north of Willits near Shimmins Ridge Road (Postmile 55.7 on Highway 101) due to a traffic accident. All northbound and southbound lanes are currently closed. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and take alternative travel routes if possible. There is currently no estimated time of re-opening.

Original Post: Highway 101 is closed between Laytonville and Willits near Outlet Creek after a two vehicle collision involving a big rig and a black sedan.
LoCO‘s CHP Watch and MendocinoSportsPlus note that the driver of the vehicle was killed. Two minor patients reportedly suffered major injuries.
An air ambulance has been called to the scene. We will update when we know more.
