(UPDATE) Major-Injury Crash: Convertible Collides With Big Rig on Highway 101 Near Last Chance Grade

On June 18, 2020, at approximately 11 a.m., Party #1 was driving his 1974 MG MGB convertible southbound on US-101, approaching mile post marker 15.76.
Party #2 was stopped for traffic in his 2020 Freightliner and semi trailer at mile post marker 15.76. As Party #1 approached Vehicle #2, Party #1 was unable to stop his MG prior to colliding with the rear of Vehicle #2’s trailer, Party #1 sustained major injuries after colliding with the rear of the trailer.
CHP and other emergency personnel arrived on scene and began providing medical assistance to Party #1. Party #1 was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital, via Del Norte Ambulance, for further treatment.
Crescent City Fire Protection District, Del Norte Ambulance, California State Parks, Klamath Fire, and Caltrans provided assistance on scene. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor at this time. This incident remains under investigation by the Crescent City CHP office.

At least one person has suffered major injuries due to a traffic collision between a convertible and a big rig on Highway 101 near the Last Chance Grade construction zone that occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident report, at least one victim was in distress inside their vehicle after the crash.
Multiple ambulances, Calfire, the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office and the CHP all responded to the scene.
Traffic is slow in the area due to both the collision and the ongoing construction.
A dog was also involved in the crash and has reportedly been taken to a local veterinarian.
