Wildfire Closes Highway 96 South of Weitchpec

UPDATE, 4:15 p.m.:
According to the CHP report, Highway 96 will remain closed until 5 p.m. Then traffic control will be put in place throughout the night.

A new wildfire burning along Highway 96 near Bull Creek Road has shut down the highway in the area.
According to the CHP incident report, the fire is burning 10 acres up the highway hillside and 5 acres below.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the Hoopa Fire Department have been dispatched to the scene.
Northbound traffic is being diverted to Upper Mill Creek and Carpenter Roads.
High wind conditions have been reported in the area.
