FATAL CRASH: Woman Found Deceased in Vehicle Submerged in Trinity River



California Highway Patrol press release: 

On November 8th, 2023 at approximately 1724 hours, the CHP Humboldt Communication Center (HCC) received a call of a vehicle in the Trinity River, visible from SR-96.

Based on the CHP’s preliminary investigation, it appears the driver drove the vehicle off a steep embankment and subsequently went into the river, being swept approximately 125 feet down river, where it came to rest completely submerged under water.

The Hoopa Fire Department responded and located the vehicle approximately 50 feet from the shore. A deceased female was later located inside the vehicle. The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the deceased as 26-year-old Samantha Davis.

The California Highway Patrol extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and would like to thank the following agencies for their response and assistance with the investigation: Hoopa Fire Department, Hoopa Ambulance, Hoopa Tribal Valley Police Department Humboldt County Sheriff Office and Humboldt County Coroners Office.
