Jo-An Elizabeth (Hay ) Hersey
February 26, 1953 – December 27, 2024
Memorial Saturday May 24th, 2025 at Willow Creek Bible Church, 1pm
Our family Prayer Warrior Jo-An passed Dec 27th 2024 at Mad River Hospital, leaving us with sad hearts but rejoicing that she was in Heaven with her husband Mark and many family members and friends.
Jo-An (BoBo) was born to George & Carol (Hannah) Hay in Eureka CA. She lived most of her life in Humboldt County except for the time she spent in Portland Oregon where she went to Multnomah School of the Bible. There she met life long friends Kathy and Cheryl, who were very special to her.
Jo-An and Mark lived many years in Willow Creek and became health care givers to our Mom for a time. Working for the Forest Service and Home Health Care were her career choices. Being involved with the Christian Women’s Club and Prayer Chain were two things that were very important to her. She painted beautiful pictures and wrote many vivid stories, and poems. One of her biggest joys was reading books on many subjects and our wonderful WC librarian, Elizabeth, kept her supplied. Other pleasures were feeding and watching the birds in her front yard and tending her roses when she was physically able (Gina and Jeremy helped her in later years).
She was the best sister to her siblings: Jack Hay, Janet West (predeceased), Georjean Corsetti, Judy Giacone, her buddy (predeceased) and Jim Hay, her special brother. In-laws: Jim West & Roy R Corsetti (predeceased) and Keri Raphael. Jo-An was a special and involved Aunt to her nieces and nephews: Heather & Cynthia; Jennifer, Jay & Jeff; Roy E, & George; Jason, Ryan, Nick & Eric. They have many good memories of their beloved Aunt BoBo.
From Ryan: Aunt Bobo was a very important part of my life from the very beginning. She was responsible for my middle name, Joshua, as she was attending bible school when I was born and chose this from the book of Joshua. We spent a lot of time at Grandma Hay’s house growing up and Aunt Bo was there a lot to take us around while Mom and Dad were working. I spent 10-15 years around my birthday on vacation in Miranda with her and other family members. Her nickname, Bo, came from me as a toddler because I couldn’t pronounce her real name so it came out as Bobo. I will always carry fond memories of growing up with her willingness to listen and ready to pray for anyone at any time. She truly was a prayer warrior and lived her life led by Jesus and His word. She was my mom’s best friend throughout life and treated us special from beginning to end. I admire her love for God and the way she shared that with everyone.
She was a loving cousin to Margaret, Kathryn (predeceased) & Tommy (predeceased); Nancy, Kim (who was a special friend, too) & Laurie; Roy Hannah and Allan Hay, and many Aunts & Uncles and family members.
Jo-An had the best care givers: Gina & Jeremy, Sonny & Bonnie. They all did so much for her. Special thank you to Sonny for taking care of her much beloved dog, Buddy, when Jo-An passed.
Jo-An always saw the best in people and encouraged her family and friends. We will miss our “chats” on the phone and visits and lunches on ‘The Porch” over looking the Trinity River. Jo-An is in her forever home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
