COVID REPORT: Eight New Cases Confirmed Today, Says Joint Information Center; Travel at Heart of Recent Spike, According to Health Officer
Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
Eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing to 175 the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus.
Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich noted the inherent risk associated with travel during a pandemic and the potential for increased spread locally. In fact, eight recently diagnosed cases were determined to have been acquired through travel to an area outside of the county.
“Any travel is risky right now, not just to the traveler but to our entire community,” Dr. Frankovich said. “We’ve seen several clusters that started with a single person or group of people acquiring the virus through travel. Right now the safest thing to do is to postpone or cancel travel whenever possible.”
