WEEKLY COVID REPORT: Three Hospitalizations, Including a Person in Their 50s; Paxlovid Still Available at Wharfinger

Press release from the Humboldt County Public Health Division:

Humboldt County Public Health reported today three new hospitalizations including a resident in their 50s, one in their 70s and one aged 80 or older. No new deaths were reported.

An additional 181 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 were announced as well as 74 new probable cases for the period between Tuesday, Aug. 9, and Tuesday, Aug. 16. The total number of confirmed cases in the county stands at 21,222. An additional 4,738 cases are reported as probable.*

Local vaccination data has been updated on the COVID-19 Data Dashboard. Highlights include:

  • Since the last weekly report on Aug. 10, an additional 72 residents completed their vaccine series.
  • A total of 91,208 individuals, or approximately 67% of the county’s total population, have been fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.

Vaccines remain readily available throughout Humboldt County and, as always, Humboldt’s vaccination and testing services are available free of charge. Walk-ins are welcome at all Public Health clinics and some pharmacy vaccination sites. Appointments can also be made at MyTurn.ca.gov.

OptumServe offers rapid antigen testing and PCR testing services at the Wharfinger Building. Walk-in attendees will receive only rapid antigen testing unless the attendee specifically states they require a PCR test. Appointments for antigen testing can be made at lhi.care/covidtesting or by calling 888-634-1123. Wharfinger testing runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is closed from 11 a.m. to noon and 4 to 5 p.m.

Test-to-Treat service continues to be available at the Wharfinger. At Test-to-Treat locations, people are tested for COVID-19 and if a person tests positive, is 12 or older and treatments are deemed appropriate for them, Paxlovid antiviral medication will be administered at no charge. A registered nurse is on-site with a Telehealth link to a medical doctor in order to dispense medication, should the patient choose.

The service runs daily during OptumServe 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. operating hours and is closed from 11 a.m. to noon and 4 to 5 p.m. Attendees should bring a list of their medications and be prepared to answer basic questions about their medical history. Receiving Paxlovid is not an instant process and may take some time at the Wharfinger. Clients can save time by preregistering at lhi.care/covidtesting
