FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
EUREKA, CA – The Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee (HCDCC) officially endorsed Jeff Leonard’s candidacy for the Eureka City Council’s 5th Ward seat.
“I’m really grateful for the support of the HCDCC,” said Jeff Leonard, “As a life-long Democrat, I’m proud to have their support for my campaign for City Council.”
Leonard previously served on the council from 2002 to 2010. During his service, Jeff was a founding member of the Redwood Coast Energy Authority, helped secure funding for the Fisherman’s Terminal, spearheaded funding and construction of the Eureka Skate Park, helped develop the Waterfront Trail Plan among many other accomplishments.
His current campaign emphasizes local business development, downtown housing, and safe, clean streets and public spaces. “Economic development should be job number one for the Eureka City Council,” he said.
A cleaner and safer city attracts members of our community as well as tourists to our downtown and old town. “Eureka is a very compassionate City. We should be proud of the great job we’re doing helping community members that need extra assistance,” said Leonard. “Next, we need to focus on accountability. A cleaner, safer city attracts tourists and members of our community to our downtown and old town.”
Leonard believes compassion and accountability need to be equal partners. The workforce housing being constructed in the city will help businesses thrive and our economy to grow.
“Eureka doesn’t have to choose between economic growth and quality of life,” said Jeff Leonard. “We can be a leader in responsible growth while preserving the character, community and small-town charm that makes Eureka such a special place to live.”
