Julie Ryan Earns RCCER Endorsement!
The mission of the Redwood Coalition for Climate and Environmental Responsibility (RCCER – pronounced “rocker”) is to ensure that local elected officials and government agencies on California’s North Coast take robust, just, and equitable actions to address the climate crisis and other key environmental issues.
Julie has a degree in Environmental Planning with a minor in Forestry from Cal Poly Humboldt and was a tour docent at the Campus Center for Appropriate Technology. Julie has worked for the USDA Forest Service and done internships at Regional Park systems. She has been on the leadership team of a youth summer camp since 2012 where foster and homeless youth can take Julie’s nature & plant identification workshop. “It is fun to see youth looking at rocks and leaves under a field lens and having a sense of awe. It is amazing to help a child plant a seed when they have never done it before. Explaining how plants growing by the river provide nutrients and shade to create the right habitat for fish to thrive instills curiosity and good observation skills.
One of Julie’s local concerns is the 2029 expiration of water rights from the Ruth Lake Watershed. The pulp mills used to consume a large volume of water, and another industry has not emerged to take its place. am hopeful that HCSD can play a role in keeping our watersheds healthy and thriving.
Thank you RCCER!
