Amazon

Amazon is a big topic of discusssion in recent days.  The plans are confirmed given the bees and rare plants don’t object.  Instead of debating whether Amazon should be here, shouldn’t the real question now be how Humboldt can extract the most value from it?  What would that look like under your leadership?

My understanding is that the proposed Amazon facility is “principally permitted by right development” according to county planning code. Other communities have requested a voluntary “Community Benefits Agreement”. The County can not force Amazon to do anything out of the ordinary, but they can ask. Examples include contributing to an annual road maintenance fund, supporting community projects, offering local work force training, and hiring locals with full time living wages jobs. Again, all voluntary. I have already spoken with John Ford about this. If elected, I would ask county staff to push harder when exploring creative ways to help align development with local needs in mind. I would encourage large business entities not just to do business here, but to participate in our community.
