These are times of new challenges.  We have seen in other parts of the country the intrusion of ICE into some cities.  Some mayors have declared Ice free zones or instructed the local police to stay independent from them.  What would you do to protect our neighbors from unlawful abduction?

Every person in Eureka, regardless of where they were born or their immigration status deserves to be treated with dignity and afforded the protections of the Constitution and the law.

As Mayor, I would make sure Eureka Police remain focused on their responsibility: protecting our community and enforcing local and state criminal laws, not serving as federal immigration agents. At the same time, I would never instruct our police officers to interfere with lawful federal operations or put them in the position of violating the law.

If anyone including a government official acts outside their lawful authority, our response should be based on the law, due process, and the facts, not politics.

My responsibility as Mayor would be to protect the safety and constitutional rights of everyone in our community while respecting the legal boundaries of local, state, and federal government.

No one is above the law, and no one should be beneath its protection.
