Ward One Shenanigans

Do you actually live in Ward One? Sometimes our area gets candidates that move in at the last minute and that makes me sad.

I actually grew up in ward 1. I went to elementary school at Jefferson before the school system shut it down. I used to ride my bike around Jefferson. I used to play basketball at Jefferson outside of school. My friends and I were able to stay out and play until the streetlights came on. 

Unfortunately, when I younger, I moved across town to over to by Winco. I lived there for roughly 10 years. Don’t quote on me on that. Then after my wife and I got together, we moved back into the 1st ward with our kids. Long story short, the 1st ward is my home. I want to better the city, and more importantly, the 1st ward. 

I look forward to raising my kids in the 1st ward. My kids go up to Jefferson all the time with other kids in the neighborhood. I continuously walk the ward. The 1st ward has wonderful people and create a wonderful community. I LOVE MY WARD. 

Yes, I absolutely live in Ward One! I was born and raised in Eureka, attended Alice Birney Elementary School, and grew up on Central Avenue. I’m a third-generation Humboldt County resident, and after returning home, I made Ward One my home, near Aldi Street. I love our neighborhood, including its challenges, because I believe challenges create opportunities for people to come together and find solutions. We’ve experienced vehicle theft and other public safety concerns in our neighborhood, and I’ve worked cooperatively with the Eureka Police Department and neighbors to explore neighborhood watch efforts and ways we can better look out for one another. I’m a problem solver by nature. Throughout my life, I’ve balanced raising my daughter, working multiple jobs, pursuing my education, and building a 25-year career that required strategic thinking, collaboration, and finding solutions to complex problems. I bring that same determination and compassion to my community. Through my business, GroveField, my philosophy is “Where you become more you.” I believe everyone has a story worth hearing, and everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued. That philosophy extends to how I approach my neighbors and our community. I’m always happy to share my contact information, meet residents for coffee, walk our neighborhoods together, or simply listen to their concerns. I believe community leadership starts with being accessible, building relationships, and showing up. Ward One isn’t just a place on a map to me. It’s my home, my community, and a neighborhood I care deeply about. I welcome the opportunity to work alongside my neighbors to address our challenges and celebrate everything that makes our community special.

My partner and I are incredibly lucky to own a home in this community. Our neighbors are so kind and amazing. I find myself constantly in awe of how much we all care for and keep an eye out for one another. We know almost everyone on our block, and our lives have been enriched so much because of them. I love living within walking distance of Winco and the gorgeously redone Da’ Yas Park. The ease of access from our house to Broadway is also a perk, since it makes shopping at Pierson’s or Costco really convenient. It also doesn’t hurt that my parents live less than a mile away.

We were welcomed with open arms from the day we moved into our home, and I have been truly humbled by the support my campaign has received from the people who live closest to us. The hope that my work can improve the quality of their lives is what gives me the energy to go out there every day and campaign. As I’ve said from the beginning, this campaign isn’t just about winning a seat; it is about building a movement of engaged, caring neighbors who feel empowered to shape their own future.
