Are You MAGA?

I lived in Ward 3 for most of my life and you get to know and see regularly which households tend to vote for certain political parties. I have noticed that the yards that have your signs are ones that traditionally vote MAGA (formally the GOP). Are you associated with them in any capacity? I think it matters to many in this Ward. 

Thank you for this question. I do have signs throughout Ward 3 and other parts of Eureka in the yards of people who support me, and I’m proud that those supporters come from a variety of political backgrounds, including Democrats, Independents, Republicans, Libertarians, and people affiliated with other parties.

I am not “MAGA.” I am a registered Republican, but I consider myself a Moderate. I value thoughtful discussion, different perspectives, and finding common ground. I also believe decisions should be based on research, facts, and careful consideration of the issues. I think it’s important to keep an open mind and be willing to listen to perspectives different from our own. One of the reasons I chose to run for City Council is that I truly believe deep down we have far more in common than we have differences. I believe our community needs to come together, and that we can accomplish so much when we approach one another with kindness, respect, and a willingness to listen and collaborate.

I understand that political affiliation is important to some people, and I respect that. At the same time, City Council is nonpartisan, and I believe our responsibility is to the entire community. We may not always agree, and that’s okay. We can still respect one another, find common ground, and work together for the good of Eureka as a whole.

I want to be part of a community where people feel acknowledged and respected, where different perspectives are welcomed, and where we work together to help Eureka thrive. To me, that starts with recognizing that we are all part of the same community, regardless of our political beliefs
