City Run Grocery Store

There’s been some tossing around in the last year of having a grocery store run by the City of Eureka. In broad strokes, would you support a city run grocery store? Why or why not?

Henderson Center, Burre Center, and possibly other food deserts really need supermarkets, and if corporations can’t operate at a profit there then I support city-owned stores.  After all the government is supposed to help people.

No, I don’t support this idea.

I support neighborhood grocery stores. The Rite Aid building is still empty and would be a good location for a neighborhood grocery store. Hopefully, a local entrepreneur will invest in that location soon.

As a council member, if I heard that a local developer was thinking about starting up a neighborhood grocery store, I would meet with the developer and find out if there was anything the City could do to help make the project a reality.
