Do you support requiring all rental homes to have business licenses and the money used for housing?

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your question. I believe rental properties generating income should be recognized as business activity. However, we need to balance reasonable licensing fees for property owners with protecting tenants from additional financial burdens.

I would be open to exploring a modest, potentially phased-in fee structure, with revenue directed toward housing initiatives. I believe in data-driven decision-making, evaluating outcomes, and adjusting our approach when something isn’t working. Any solution should consider the financial impact on all parties involved.

As a first-time City Council candidate, I want to thoroughly explore our existing policies and options before committing to a specific approach. I also believe greater transparency is essential so residents understand how decisions are made, where funding goes, and whether we’re achieving meaningful results, particularly regarding housing, homelessness, and addiction.

I appreciate you bringing this forward and welcome continued dialogue!
