Kim Kardashian, for some reason one of the most famous people to have ever lived, was in Crescent City this week! Freak out if you need to. We know of her entry into our space for two reasons. First, some locals spotted her at The Chart Room — you know, that old seafood place where sea lions hang out by the harbor. Local radio station KCRE shared the visual evidence on their Facebook page and noted that actor Tobey Maguire was also in attendance for the film crew-captured lunch (though no one bothered to take a photo with him).

Moving on. The other data point alluding to Kim Kardashian’s presence in our vicinity comes from her own hand. Last night Kardashian posted video tagged “Pelican Bay” to her Instagram story featuring a sunset-drenched Castle Rock taken from a little pullout on North Pebble Beach Drive. We will note that she included the magic emoji (✨), so we are going to assume she appreciated the view. See what Kim saw now.

Arcata Vehicle Pursuit: APD attempted a traffic stop in the area of Highway 255 near Jackson Ranch. The vehicle fled at speeds up to 100 mph. APD has discontinued the pursuit in Eureka on Broadway. EPD spotted the vehicle traveling the wrong way southbound on Broadway. They are not in pursuit at this time. The involved vehicle was possibly reported stolen

Caltrans District 1 is posting photos of some of the many trees that have submitted to the forces of heavy wind and loose, rain-saturated soil. 

Last we heard, Hwy. 101 remains closed between Seawood Drive near Trinidad and Orick.

High winds are expected to continue all through the evening tonight. Major roads like parts of 101 are closed due to down trees. Power outages have been reported throughout the area.

Fernbridge is closed to all traffic. Blue Slide road is down to one lane just south of Price Creek. Locals are directing traffic around a blind curve. Numerous emergency calls are pending around Rio Dell, largely for gas leaks. Rio Dell Fire is triaging and responding as able. Responding mutual aid includes Humboldt Bay Fire sending Engine 8112, Cal Fire Engine 1272 is arriving at the command post for assignment, Arcata Fire is sending one engine and Ferndale Fire is sending one engine

Rio Dell Earthquake: Numerous calls are coming in around Rio Dell for gas leaks and other earthquake related damages. aThe Cal Fire Fortuna ECC is starting multiple mutual aid resources to report to the Rio Dell fire hall for assignment

The new river forecasts are in for Humboldt County. NEW: The Mad River is now expected to exceed flood stage overnight. Also, the Eel River at Fernbridge remains forecast to exceed flood stage on Saturday.

Caltrans is keeping a close eye on Fernbridge as waters rise. The river’s under a flood watch for tomorrow, so likely nothing until then.
