[Comment: Not that unusual at all, “official,” and it’s why the ability to quickly evaluate and prioritize incoming calls is one of the most critical skills for dispatchers. I worked at a small town department where we ran 2 cars. If they were tied up it took only two more calls and we were 100% backlogged. My other place I usually had 30 cars, but could easily have 40 calls at busy times, so 10 people had to wait. You could usually pull someone away from a caller’s house for a critical call, but it was a balancing act. You’re doing good in here with the posts, by the way. I probably won’t be back to town for a couple weeks. /just-in]
