The Times-Standard’s Jackson Guilfoil reports that California’s Fair Political Practices Commission has issued it’s long-awaited advice letter as regards Arcata City Councilmember Alex Stillman and the city’s Gateway Play.
In short: No dice, says the FPPC. Stillman, who was elected in June, cannot participate in any discussions or votes concerning the city-defining plan, which seeks to vastly increase the amount of housing in a somewhat underutilized portion of town.
That means only three of five members of the council — a bare quorum — are currently available to vote on the plan, and there’s another election currently underway. At least one of the current candidates — Dana Quillman — has much the same conflicts of interests as Stillman and Mayor Stacey Atkins-Salazar do, and possibly more do as well. Stay tuned.
