A fuel truck has been requested to the Downtown Arcata fire scene to supply diesel to fire apparatus that have been pumping water on the fire since mid afternoon. Overhaul continues with heavy equipment taking down involved buildings to allow complete extinguishment of the fire. This incident also further highlights Arcata Fire’s need for its own ladder truck, especially in the added context of the new multistory student housing structures in the district. Two mutual aid ladder trucks from Fortuna Fire and Humboldt Bay Fire were eventually utilized during this incident and their ladder pipe operations were critical to finally stopping the fire from continuing to spread into additional buildings.
