CHP Air 11 had to leave the scene to start their flight back to Redding. The suspect has not yet been located. There are still deputies in the area

CHP Air 11 is back airborne after refueling. They are assisting deputies in searching an area west of Fischer where there was a report of possible suspicious activity. The ambulance that was staged for the search has been released

CHP Air 11 is landing at ACV for fuel then will be returning to continue the search

Deputies have cleared homes in the initial search area which appeared to have been centered in the area of Ashdown and Hiller Road. The search area has been expanded and CHP Air 11 is continuing their search from above

McKinleyville Shooting Update on Conditions: A search for the suspect is ongoing in the 700 block of Hiller. Numerous HCSO deputies (including a K9) are on scene. An ambulance has staged out of the area. CHP aircraft Air 11 has responded from Redding and is now overhead to assist in the search. The CHP aircraft is a fixed wing, Cessna 206 that will be circling over McKinleyville.

The Coast Guard will be sending a helicopter back to the Scenic incident to transport the deceased individual back up to the roadway for the coroner. High Rock Crew 3 has been canceled

Coast Guard 6608 landed on the beach and picked up one patient who was extricated from the vehicle. They are back airborne and going direct to the hospital. The other occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene. High Rock Crew 3 and HCSO Search and Rescue resources are being requested to assist the coroner with the recovery.

The Coast Guard helicopter is at scene. Scenic IC is canceling the request for Cal Fire Copter 909

Trinidad Traffic Collision w/ Extrication: Reported as a vehicle over the side off Scenic Dr. at Baker Beach. Arcata, Westahven, Fieldbrook and Cal Fire are at scene. Arcata Ambulance has two ambulances assigned. Cal Fire Copter 909 is reconfiguring for an air rescue and Coast Guard Helicopter 6608 is airborne from ACV. This will be called the “Scenic” incident

Clam Beach Fight w/ Weapons: Initial report of a high school party near the north parking area with juveniles physically fighting and one possibly in possession of a firearm; HCSO is on scene with 15-20 vehicles leaving the area. One reporting party is stating that the suspect with the firearm may still be on the beach. Deputies are out investigating.

Fire resources appear to be making progress on the vegetation fire west of Willow Creek. Six Rivers Forest Service has released the Willow Creek Fire Department units. Tanker 96 and Air Attack 120 are back on the ground at Rohnerville. A Forest Service smokejumper/paracargo aircraft out of Redding is in the area. This is being called the “Willow” fire

As regards the fire outside Willow Creek: CHP dispatch is currently reporting the roadway open. See this link.

Willow Creek Vegetation Fire: In the area of Highway 299 at mile marker 36. This was originally dispatched around 4:00 pm. Six Rivers National Forest resources are fighting a vegetation fire along the roadway and Highway 299 may be blocked in the area. Air Attack 120 is overhead working Tanker 96 and 1 or 2 helicopters. No other details at this time

Lost Coast Trail Medical Rescue: Report of an adult patient having seizures in the Oat Creek area. Fire and medical are responding. A medical helicopter was requested through REACH who are declining the mission due to weather. A request is in for a Coast Guard helicopter.

A helicopter is on order for the Bridgeville gunshot victim. Currently waiting on callback from REACH 18 who reports a 67 minute ETA if they are able to accept

Bridgeville Gunshot Victim: 19100 block of Highway 36 in the general area of mile marker 18. An HCSO dispatcher is advising that they are on the line with a caller who states that their friend “pulled a 12 gauge” on them and the caller says that they then fired their own weapon. Deputies are responding code 3, medical is staging. One subject is reported to have gunshot wounds to the chest and arm

A Giant Pacific Octopus was found washed ashore on Clam Beach this morning. Outpost reader Karina Junge sent in these photos.

“The first picture has a sand-dollar next to the octopus for size comparisons,” she said in her email. “Seeing this big guy was a first for me!”

While this specimen is indeed quite large, and remarkably intact, Giant Pacific Octopus sightings are not particularly uncommon on the Humboldt County coast, as documented over at iNaturalist.org

They kame, they pedaled, they konquered. The judges are still tallying the skores to determine this year’s official winners, but to all the racers who brought kolor and grit to the 2023 Kinetic Grand Championship, the Lost Coast Outpost salutes you.

LoCO posted up at the finish line on Ferndale’s Main Street earlier today and cheered along with the rest of the krowd as this year’s kinetic klass kollected much of that glory you’ve heard so much about. If you missed it, you can bare witness to the kulmination of Humboldt’s weird weekend in the klip above. Glory achieved.

AND THEY’RE OFF. Humboldt again packed the Arcata Plaza to witness the kick off of the Kinetic Grand Championship on Saturday. Your Lost Coast Outpost will assemble its annual field guide of the year’s kinetic klass in a bit, but for now get a quick glimpse of what this year’s artists were able to konjure up for purposes of glory.

Humboldt’s weird weekend has kommenced. Yes we kan!
